Publication-grade audit of the DS15 margins dichotomy
Verification recordpublication: internalno direct precedent found
Statement
DS15 was independently re-derived and verified for d_psi = d_lambda = 1 with hardened assumptions: Proposition 6 (achievability by steering) was closed from a sketch to a proof (boundary/mass consistency from (S)-uniqueness, a VC/LIL availability count for the swap slabs, drift accounting, two-direction controllability; honest rate ~N^{-3/4} up to log log factors); the conclusion-(3) Glivenko-Cantelli import was corrected (fixed half-plane VC class plus (S)-atomlessness, no (M4)/(M5) needed); Proposition 5's uniform Lipschitz-in-tilt bound was derived. The registered d_lambda-generality was refuted: at K = d_lambda + 1 exact centering forces every feasible labeling's profiled value to exactly zero (CE-DS-MARGINS-RANK-VACUITY-001), so K >= d_lambda + 2 is the correct cardinality condition and the d_lambda >= 2 branch is open (OPEN-DS-MARGINS-NONCENTERED). Independent exact evidence: 20 exhaustively certified global optima at N=12-16 (up to 7,141,686 canonical partitions per instance, ~42.6M exact evaluations), zero exact full-lattice ties, sandwich/tax identity 20/20, the researcher's float top-64 screen validated (rank 1, zero guard casualties), the float-only scalar (M2) sweep anchored by an exact DP at N=1000. Targeted prior-art search found no direct equivalent of the margins-failure-at-optima dichotomy: a search gap, not novelty.
