Part VI: Contributing and experimentation
The repository is intended to be a practical reference implementation rather than a one‑off experiment. If you are interested in contributing or using it as the basis for research:
- Bug reports and feature requests – if you run into issues on your own images or have feature ideas (e.g., better defaults, new configuration knobs), opening an issue with repro steps and sample data is extremely helpful.
- Testing and benchmarks – the Python helpers under
tools/and the data intestdata/are designed to make it easy to rerun accuracy and performance experiments after code changes. Extending these scripts or adding new datasets is a good way to validate improvements. - Algorithmic experiments – ChESS is only one point in the design space of chessboard detectors. Variants of the response kernel, alternative refinement strategies, or different multiscale schemes can all be explored while reusing the same benchmarking and visualization tools.
If you do build something interesting on top of this project—new bindings, specialized pipelines, or improved kernels—consider sharing it back so that other users can benefit and compare results on a common set of tools.
