Parametric shortest-path envelope complexity (1 Sep 2026)
- Use
forces any polynomial exact algorithm for the tilted ScoreQuant dual to prove structure specific to the interval-segmentation DAG and its quadratic segment costs.
- Does not transfer
the published lower bound is not for that restricted DAG/cost family, so it neither proves hardness nor rules out a polynomial algorithm for the ScoreQuant problem. See the targeted triangulation in

Gajjar & Radhakrishnan (FOCS 2019:876–895, arXiv:1811.05115) construct parameterized planar shortest-path instances with linear edge weights whose optimal-cost envelope has pieces. This is the closest complexity warning for an attempt to enumerate every optimizer change of a scalar interval DP as a tilt varies: a fixed-order segmentation DP is a shortest-path computation on a DAG, and polynomially many changes in the input ordering do not by themselves bound the number of optimal DP paths.
FOCS 2019:876-895. Constructs linear-parameter planar shortest-path instances with n^{Omega(log n)} optimal-cost pieces. This is a parametric-DP envelope-complexity warning, not a lower bound for the restricted tilted interval-segmentation DP.
